Cromane Seafest brings a seafood weekend and two races to the coast near Killorglin

Cromane sits on a spit of land pushing out into Castlemaine Harbour, a few kilometres north of the N70 between Killorglin and Glenbeigh. It is off the Ring of Kerry proper and often bypassed.

Cromane Seafest runs from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September 2026. It is a community festival built on what the village does for a living: Cromane mussels and oysters are farmed in the harbour and sold under the village's name. The weekend is a mix of maritime market and chef demonstrations, food trucks, water activities off the shore, and music through the three days. Two fixtures have fixed start times and entry fees.

The Cromane Seafest Sprint Triathlon is on Saturday 19 September: a 750m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run. It takes relay teams of two or three as well as individuals, which makes it one of the more approachable races on the Kerry calendar. Entries go through Triathlon Ireland.

The 10 mile run is on Sunday 20 September at 10am, and entry is 50 euro. It starts at Cromane Lower, out at the tip of the spit, which is one of the better vantage points in this part of Kerry: the Brandon range and Slieve Mish across the water on the Dingle peninsula, and the MacGillycuddy's Reeks behind you to the south. Places are booked through Eventmaster.

Neither race closes the loop. The N70 carries on as normal and the racing is on local roads out on the spit. If you are driving from Killorglin towards Rossbeigh on any of those three days, the detour puts you in front of the shellfish where it is farmed.
