Killarney closes Main Street to traffic every weekend in August

Killarney is continuing its summer pedestrianisation on the R876, closing Kenmare Place and Main Street to traffic for three more August weekends.

The closed section runs from the junction of Mission Road and Kenmare Place to the junction of Main Street and New Street. It is shut from 12 noon each Saturday until 8am the following Monday, on these weekends:

• 15 to 17 August
• 22 to 24 August
• 29 to 31 August

The signed diversion leaves Kenmare Place onto the N71 Mission Road, then Beech Road, and rejoins the R877 at New Street.

This is good news if you are on foot. The centre of Killarney becomes genuinely pleasant to walk for the whole weekend, with the restaurants and bars spilling onto the street. It is less good if you were planning to drive to a hotel on Main Street, so check where your parking actually is before you arrive on a Saturday afternoon.
